What is B.B.B.
Basic Beliefs Briefings

Many of us can spend most of our lives in church yet never get a good foundation of the basics of the Christian faith. At Fresh Start, we believe that not only our young people, but all of us can benefit from learning and applying the doctrinal, historical and practical teachings of the Church to our lives. This may seem intimidating, even boring. We hear the word doctrine or history and immediately our eyes glaze over. The truth is that what we believe (doctrine) and why we believe it (history) are critical to developing a practical and dynamic spiritual life. It is the goal of this series of seminars to provide this foundation and help us deepen and widen our relationship with our Lord.

The seminars are designed around three questions: What do we believe (and why)? Where did we come from? How should we live the Christian life? All three are interrelated and each will enhance the other. The goal is to explore each topic and learn how it impacts our lives today. Here are some of the specific topics we will study. We may add or delete depending on the needs and desires of the group.

I. Where did we come from?
1. Basic church history in 63 minutes
2. Where did all those denominations come from?
3. What do other Christian groups believe?

II. What do we believe?
1. Our Statement of Faith -
a. The existence of God
b. Man and Sin
c. Jesus - God/Man/Savior
i. What is the “good news”?
d. Holy Spirit/Kingdom of God
i. Gifts/tongues
ii. Healing
iii. Evangelism
iv. Church
e. Bible
i. Using Bible references
ii. Quick Greek

III. How should we live?
1. Disciplines
a. Worship
b. Reflection
c. Detachment
d. Devotional Bible reading
e. Prayer
2. What is faith?
3. How to live the “greatest” commandments – loving God and neighbor
4. What does it mean to carry our cross?

The center of all we do and study is Christ. He must remain our center and our focus.

The historic Westminster catechism of the Reformed church written in 1646 asks the question, “What is the chief end of Man?” and answers it with this statement: “To glorify God and enjoy Him forever”. That could not be more true. So we will start our Basic Belief Briefings with the topic of Worship. This is one of the “power tools” we will learn about to help us deepen our relationship with Christ.
